Aunt:
Thailand is predominantly Buddhist and although Christmas is not an official holiday, the country still manages to embrace the sanuk aspects of the festive period and give it a distinctly Thai twist. Don’t be surprised to see tuk-tuk drivers wearing Santa hats and coffee shops kitted out with sparkly decorations to accompany the Christmas songs on their playlist. While Christmas Day may be a normal working day in Thailand, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are both public holidays.

Blackpink Singer Rosé Continues To Make History With Her New Single

Blackpink star Rosé has scored quite the important single with “Apt.,” her latest solo offering. The track earned a lofty debut on a number of charts in America last week, and on most of them, it’s started to decline. The tune does manage to climb to a new high on one list, and as it does, the singer makes history.

“Apt.” lifts to a new peak of No. 26 on the Pop Airplay chart, Billboard’s ranking of the most successful songs on top 40 pop radio across the country. The single climbs from No. 33, where it started its time on the competitive radio roster just a few days ago.

As it settles at No. 26, “Apt.” becomes the second-highest-charting song by any South Korean solo female musician in the history of the Pop Airplay tally. It’s seven-space surge helps it pass two other hits—and coincidentally, they’re by the same musician.

Bibi has scored a pair of smashes on the Pop Airplay chart, and they coincidentally stalled in the same position. Her singles “The Weekend” with 347aidan and “Feeling Lucky” with Jackson Wang, both only soared as high as No. 31, though they lived on the list for months.

Until this week, those two Bibi tracks jointly stood as the second-highest-rising singles by any female musician working on her own who hails from South Korea. Now, they share third place, as Rosé quickly advances into second on this all-time list.

The loftiest position any South Korean solo woman has reached on the Pop Airplay chart is still No. 18. Jennie, one of the other members of Blackpink, rose to that slot earlier this year as a featured guest on a smash fronted by The Weeknd. “One of the Girls” was written and recorded for his TV series The Idol, which also featured Rosé as not just a vocalist, but also an actress.“Apt.” benefits greatly from the inclusion of Bruno Mars, who has long been a favorite of pop radio DJs. When they see his name on a single, there’s a good chance that the tune will be put into rotation, as he rarely misses. Rosé may only just be getting started on the Pop Airplay chart with her first win, but Mars has a long track record of success on the tally. The Grammy winner has collected 25 hits, including this latest one. That sum includes nine leaders and 18 top 10s.
